A Filipino driver who admitted to wounding a man last October to defend his employer
was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and pay costs of $500.
Renato A. Dasalla, 40, was meted the sentence by Eastern Court Magistrate Bina
Chainrai
on June 30.
During trial, Dasalla said he was driving his employer along Junction Road in Wanchai
one evening when he almost hit a man who suddenly crossed the street.
The man reportedly got angry and confronted Dasalla's employer. When Dasalla sensed
the
man would attack his boss, he got off the car and punched the pedestrian in the neck. The man
fell to
the ground and suffered a cut and a gash on his forehead.
The grateful employer said he would continue employing Dasalla.
